Whilst their main activity is to provide residential care for the elderly, they also have a regular program of events to stimulate their residents, which includes lectures and talks from interesting speakers - this is where Soundsmith came in. We were asked to design and install an AV system which would enable the guest speakers to be amplified through the use of radio microphones and discreet wall-mounted speakers. We specified a total of eight JBL control speakers, Trantec radio microphones, an Australian Monitor mixer and six channels of amplification. The control equipment was housed in a lockable and ventilated rack unit. Hartland House also asked us to provide a 42” Panasonic Plasma television which we mounted on an articulated wall bracket, so that the display could be angled towards different ends of the room. The last requirement of the system was to provide residents who were hard of hearing with the facility to listen to the guest speakers, or indeed the television & DVD player through an Infra-red Assistive listening system, from marker leaders Sennheiser. This was achieved by the use of two transmitters strategically located to provide plentiful coverage throughout the room. We supplied Hartland House with a total of 16 Infra-Red receivers and the requisite charging facilities so that the maximum number of residents could benefit from the system. |
